Four more . . . what?
. . .years for President Bush? Days or weeks until Kerry concedes?
Crunch the numbers. Currently, with 100% of precincts reporting, Bush leads Ohio 2,794,346 to Kerry's 2,658,125, a margin of 136,221. With only ten of Ohio's 88 counties not reported, there were 135,149 provisional ballots distributed in Ohio. ABC projects that the number of provisional ballots is 147,570. Ohio's secretary of state stated that in the last election, 90% of the provisional ballots were ultimately counted. If that holds, and assuming the ABC figure is an accurate projection of the total provisional ballots, then 132,813 of the provisional ballots would figure into the final tally. Even if Kerry won 100% of the provisional ballots (practically impossible), he could not overtake Bush's current margin.
Congratulations, President Bush.
UPDATE: Kerry has called President Bush to concede defeat in the election, sparing the nation another weeks-long legal battle. The senator is to be commended for taking the high road.
